The Conning Tower, Haven Road, Sandbanks, Poole
The Conning Tower flats are part of the Harbour Heights estate designed, according to Pevsner, by AJ Seal & Partners of Bournemouth
from 1935 to 1938 - 'a brave and enterprising group of Early Modern buildings', he says, though that's the most complimentary thing he
has to say about them. I find the Conning Tower rather striking with its curving balconies calling to mind the De La Warr Pavilion in
Bexhill, constructed around the same time. A slight impression of flimsiness is perhaps the drawback here, but it's clean, gentle and
uplifting.

As well as the other Harbour Heights buildings, the modernist houses of
Banks Road are just around the corner.
